Stereophonics “This Feeling” Live Gig @ KL Live, Kuala Lumpur

Stereophonics, a rock band hailed from Wales rocked Kuala Lumpur 2 days ago with their “This Feeling” gig/concert at KL Live at Life Centre, Jalan Sultan Ismail..

First of all, gazillion thanks to Ginny for the pair of tickets that she bought but couldn’t attend due to high fever..THANK YOU! Makan and movie next time k :D

So I asked Dillon to join me coz he’s the only one who likes rock music and free to drive me to Mutiara Damansara during office-hour to pick up the tickets from her..Well my car was in the workshop, so yeah..

It was said that the door opens at 7.30pm and the gig starts at 9pm, so Dillon and I thought we could slack a bit because we were afraid if there’s no crowd and we got nothing to do there if we were too early..

We reached KL Live at about 7.35pm and we were shocked to see the crowd waiting in line..We’ve never thought that Stereophonics have THAT kind of fanbase in Malaysia..

One reason is Stereophonics is not a new band and it’s not quite a mainstream hits in local radio..I can understand those people who are of my era but some were pretty young..

I first heard of them in 1997 of their first ever single “Local Boy In The Photograph” from their debut album “Word Gets Around”..

Anyway, so we entered KL Live at about 8pm after waited for quite some time at the lower ground due to the packed crowd..

*The crowd waiting for the gig to begin*

Sorry for the photo quality but that’s all I have coz I was using my camphone only..Didn’t bring my gears..

So we entered and more waitings til around 9.25pm..The waiting had finally ended..

Owh, Hsu Jen, David, and Chris Tock were there too..And I’ve created a Twitter hashtag for it under #StereophonicsMY..

The Welsh rock band now consists of Kelly Jones (vocal, guitar), Richard Jones (back up vocal, bass), Javier Weyler (drummer), Adam Zindani (back up vocal, guitar), and touring member Tony Kirkham (keyboard)..

And that night was Tony’s birthday, or somewhere around that day..We even sang birthday song to him wtf..LOL..

The gig lasted for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes and another 15-20 minutes of encore..It was a great deal!

I’ve video recorded 2 songs on my phone, namely “Mr Writer” and “Have A Nice Day”..

The video quality was so so but the audio quality sounds pretty fine, not great..

So, enjoy! I hope those people who attended it enjoyed themselves too..

Powderfinger – My Happiness

Powderfinger, an Australian band formed in 1989 and is breaking up after their “Sunsets” tour in September and October 2010..

They are currently on their 7th album is probably the last album from the band consists of Bennard Fanning (vocal), Darren Middleton and Ian Haug (guitars), John Collins (bass), and John Coghill (drums)..

My Happiness is taken from their most successful album or their 4th album, Odyssey Number Five, released in September 2000..

It’s one of my favourites of 90′s music..

Rejoice if you’ve loved this song ever since, and enjoy if you have not listened to it..

Here’s My Happiness lyrics by Powderfinger along with MTV..

Powderfinger – My Happiness

I see your shadow on the street now
I hear you push through the rusty gate
Click of your heels on the concrete
Waiting for a knock coming way too late
It seems an age since I’ve seen you
Countdown as the weeks trickle into days

So you come in and put your bags down
I know there’s something in the air
How can I do this to you right now
If you’re over there when I need you here

My happiness is slowly creeping back
Now you’re at home
If it ever starts sinking in
It must be when you pack up and go

It seems an age since I’ve seen you
Countdown as the weeks trickle into days
I hope that time hasn’t changed you
All I really want is for you to stay

I know I know I know what is inside

Our Lady Peace – Somewhere Out There

Our Lady Peace, a Canadian alternative rock band formed in 1992, is one of the many alternative rock bands that I love back in the 90′s..

Although they have been around since the early 90′s, I’ve only heard of them in 2002 and that is this single, ‘Somewhere Out There’..

‘Somewhere out There’ still remained to be their chart-topping hit in their high and low music career..It’s from the ‘Gravity’ album, released in June 2002..

The album;s second single ‘Innocent’ is quite a hit too, and I love the song as well..

Here’s Our Lady Peace ‘Somewhere Out There’ lyrics and music video..

Our Lady Peace – Somewhere Out There

Last time I talked to you
You were lonely and out of place
You were looking down on me
Lost out in space
We laid underneath the stars
Strung out and feeling brave
I watched the red orange glow
I watched you float away
Down here in the atmosphere
Garbage and city lights
You’ve gone to save your tired soul
You’ve gone to save our lives
I turned on the radio
To find you on satellite
I’m waiting for this sky to fall
I’m waiting for a sign
All we are
Is all so far

You’re falling back to me
You’re a star that I can see
I know you’re out there
Somewhere out there
You’re falling out of reach
Defying gravity
I know you’re out there
Somewhere out there
Hope you remember me
When you’re home sick
and need a change
I miss your purple hair
I miss the way you taste
I know you’ll come back someday
On a bed of nails I’ll wait
I’m praying that you don’t burn out
Or fade away
All we are
Is all so far

You’re falling back to me
You’re a star that I can see
I know you’re out there
Somewhere out there
You’re falling out of reach
Defying gravity
I know you’re out there
Somewhere out there
You’re falling back to me
You’re a star that I can see
I know you’re out there
You’re falling out of reach
Defying gravity
I know you’re out there
Somewhere out there
You’re falling back to me
You’re a star that I can see
I know you’re out there
Somewhere out there
You’re falling out of reach
Defying gravity
I know you’re out there
Somewhere out there
You’re falling back to me
I know
I know
You’re falling out of reach
I know

R.E.M – Imitation Of Life

R.E.M is an American rock band formed in 1980, Athens, Gerogia, consisting Michael Stipe (vocals), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass guitar), and Bill Berry (drum and percussion)..

R.E.M is considered as one of the first popular alternative rock bands, with “Radio Free Europe”, being their first released single back in 1981..

“Document”, their 5th released album was the breakthrough album for being their first million-copies selling album in 1988..

In 1992, they’ve won 3 Grammys, Best Alternative Music Album (Out of Time), Best Short Form Music Video (Losing My Religion), and Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocals (Losing My Religion)..

With their successes, I’ve only started to notice them in 2001, with this single “Imitation Of Life”, from their 12th album “Reveal”..

According to Micahel Stipe, the entire video only took 20-seconds to shoot..It’s very obvious that you can see from the video, everything is being looped forwards and backwards..

The video is especially noticeable because of Michael Stipe’s spastic movements..

If you like this song you might also like “Driver 8″ from their 3rd album “Fables Of  The Reconstruction”..

R.E.M – Imitation Of Life

Charades, pop skill
Water hyacinth, named by a poet
Imitation of life.
Like a koi in a frozen pond.
Like a goldfish in a bowl.
I don’t want to hear you cry.

Thats sugarcane that tasted good.
Thats cinnamon, thats Hollywood.
C’mon, c’mon no one can see you try.

You want the greatest thing
The greatest thing since bread came sliced.
You’ve got it all, you’ve got it sized.
Like a Friday fashion show teenager
Freezing in the corner
Trying to look like you don’t try.

Thats sugarcane that tasted good.
Thats cinnamon, thats Hollywood.
C’mon, c’mon no one can see you try.

No one can see you cry.

That sugar cane that tasted good.
That freezing rain, that’s what you could.
C’mon, c’mon on no one can see you cry.

This sugarcane
This lemonade
This hurricane, I’m not afraid.
C’mon, c’mon no one can see you cry.

This lightning storm
This tidal wave
This avalanche, I’m not afraid.
C’mon, c’mon no one can see me cry.

That sugar cane that tasted good.
That’s who you are, that’s what you could.
C’mon, c’mon on no one can see you cry.

That sugar cane that tasted good.
That’s who you are, that’s what you could.
C’mon, c’mon on no one can see you cry.

Ben Folds Five – Brick

This is quite an old song by Ben Folds Five, who they’ve officially disbanded in 2000 and reunited for a one-off concert in 2008..

The alternative rock trio-member group was formed in 1993 and gained most success over this song, “Brick” in 1997, from the album “Whatever and Ever Amen”..

Sad to be true, this beautiful is about Ben Folds past, about his high school girlfriend undergoing an abortion..

I’m amazed by Ben Folds’s songs and his solo album “Songs For Silverman” (2005) is very enjoyable..

Here’s the wonderful song “Brick”, with its live version at West 54th back in 1998 and lyrics..

Ben Folds Five – Brick

6 am day after Christmas
I throw some clothes on in the dark
The smell of cold
Car seat is freezing
The world is sleeping
I am numb

Up the stairs to her apartment
She is balled up on the couch
Her mom and dad went down to Charlotte
They’re not home to find us out
And we drive
Now that I have found someone
I’m feeling more alone
Than I ever have before

She’s a brick and I’m drowning slowly
Off the coast and I’m headed nowhere
She’s a brick and I’m drowning slowly

They call her name at 7:30
I pace around the parking lot
Then I walk down to buy her flowers
And sell some gifts that I got
Can’t you see
It’s not me you’re dying for
Now she’s feeling more alone
Than she ever has before

She’s a brick and I’m drowning slowly
Off the coast and I’m headed nowhere
She’s a brick and I’m drowning slowly

As weeks went by
It showed that she was not fine
They told me son, it’s time to tell the truth
She broke down, and I broke down
Cause I was tired of lying

Driving home to her apartment
For a moment we’re alone
Yeah she’s alone
I’m alone
Now I know it

She’s a brick and I’m drowning slowly
Off the coast and I’m headed nowhere
She’s a brick and I’m drowning slowly

The Verve – Bittersweet Symphony

The Verve, an English rock band that were formed in 1990 by Richard Ashcroft (vocalist), Nick McCabe (guitarist), Simon Jones (bassist), and Peter Salisbury (drummer)..

They released their first full-length album, A Storm In Heaven in 1993..

The band has had a lot of internal problem from drinking to drugs and conflicts between the band members which caused them to break up once in 1995, right before they release their third single, History from the second album, A Northern Soul..

The original band members reunited in 1997 and recorded their third album, Urban Hymns..

Through Urban Hymns, The Verve gained widespread commercial success and “Bittersweet Symphony” is the first single of this album..

They then officially broke up in April 1999..

The Verve had become one of the most influential British alternative rock bands years after that..

Vocalist Richard Ashcroft then went solo after the break-up and wasn’t really doing well in the second album, after much success from the first album..

The band members had a reunion in 2007 just for the sake of music and all..They event turned down a multi-album deal because they think that’s the beginning of the end of the band a decade ago..

Of course they wouldn’t want to repeat that mistake..

The band announced its fourth album, Forth, in August 2008 and are having moderate popularity in Europe now, compared to the olden days..

So here’s the single that shot them to instant fame around the globe, “Bittersweet Symphony” with lyrics..

The Verve – Bittersweet Symphony

Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
You’re a slave to money then you die
I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah,

No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
But I’m a million different people
from one day to the next
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no

Well I never pray
But tonight I’m on my knees yeah
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now
But the airways are clean and there’s nobody singing to me now

No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I’m a million different people
from one day to the next
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
I can’t change
I can’t change

‘Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
Try to find some money then you die
I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the things meet yeah

You know I can change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I’m a million different people
from one day to the next
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no

I can’t change my mold
no, no, no, no, no,
I can’t change
Can’t change my body,
no, no, no

I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
Been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Have you ever been down?
Have you’ve ever been down?
