After showing you the camera quality, here I’m going to show you the new operating system (OS) which is integrated into the Blackberry Torch 9800, the BlackBerry OS 6..
There are 5 significant new features that I can really see in this OS 6, which are..
- Home screen personalization
- Social feed
- New media player
- Faster and richer web-browsing with tabbed browsing
- Universal/Global search
I’ve recorded a video to show you the all-new experience of the OS 6 but I’m really sorry for the second-half of the video..
The focus-point was out of focus when I shot that video hence the blurry screen on the Torch 9800..
While I’m trying to shoot a better video for future improvement, please bear with this video first and here we go..
Detailed explanations if you can’t really hear what I said in the video..
Home Screen Personalization
The icons can be positioned according to “categories”, namely “All”, which has all of the icons/applications, or simply put, the “All” page is the Menu page..
“Media” is where Music, Videos, Pictures, Ring Tones, Video Camera, Podcasts, etc being placed..
“Downloads” is the page where all your downloaded applications are being placed..
“Frequent” will automatically trace the apps that you frequently used and placed them in that page so you don’t have to go all over the Menu page and click into folders again..
Otherwise, just tag your frequently used applications as favorite and place them in “Favorites”..
The home screen personalization has made browsing much easier..
The new OS 6 is more to social feed integrated with built-in apps for Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and even Youtube!
Yes of course you can download these applications but social feed is more than that..
You can integrate all of your social media applications into the Social Feed application and get notified by it whenever you have new updates..
It’s almost the same as the Messages feature where you’ll get notifications from your e-mail, SMS, MMS, BBM, and other IM apps..
It’s also meant for easy-sharing, to send out via Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc etc..Everything can be done in one page itself where you don’t have to exit an app and enter another one to upload it, you get what I mean..
Now you can scroll your playlist of songs like how you flip your books of CDs, and I heard it’s very much similar to iTunes or something like that, not too sure..
As compared to older versions of BB OS, OS 6 has tabbed browsing, where you can multitask on the browser, opening few webpages at a time!
I love tabbed-browsing like how I did on my PC..And again I heard iPhone already has this thing running so I’m very glad that BB has caught up to that because of the importance of it..
By the way, with the touchscreen, now one can copy a selection of text by using one finger to tap on the beginning of the sentence that you want and another finger to tap the end of it..
Then you’ll have something like this and copy whatever you want then paste in somewhere else..
It’s easy to look for an application or anything that you are well, lazy to scrutinize the folders one by one..
Just type whatever you want to find (videos, pictures, songs, etc) on the Home Screen and the responsive on the search result is kinda fast..
Example, I was trying to search for the “Convenience Key” option and due to the new interface, it was a hassle to look through all of the menus inside the Options..
I just type “Convenience Key” and voila, it will direct me straight to that option..It just saves time, lots of it!
That’s all from me on the Blackberry OS 6 overview and I must say it has improved quite a bit for the existing BB-users and also give the future new users something to look forward to when they compare the interface with other smartphones..
Fans of both BB and Apple certain have a lot to talk about when it comes to the rival’s unit especially iPhone users are now laughing at Torch or OS 6 users because they have most of them in iPhone already..
I understand how they felt because of the technology they have been using for quite some time but then again, I’m proud to say that finally BB has caught up with the technology and once again to go head-to-head with other smartphones, if not better than them..
