FIABCI Prix D’Excellence Awards 2009 @ Pavillion

Two weeks ago, I got a job as a so-called freelance photographer for this FIABCI Prix D’Excellence Awards 2009 at Pavillion, Bukit Bintang..

Well not that I really know what was it about, to put it in general, Pavillion actually won the title World’s Best Retail Centre from FIABCI, a worldwide recognition body founded in France..

The event was suppose to be held in China (Shang Hai if not mistaken) but was then shifted to Malaysia due to the swine flu outbreak in China..

It’s said that there are lots of VIPs, such as the Minister of Federal Territories, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, and the acting-chairman of FIABCI if not mistaken….

Before the arrival of the VIPs, photographers were allowed to wander around to do their job, that’s to snap photos away..

Before the event started, guests were served with champagne and some finger food, which I had a bit as most of us, photographers, skipped our dinner as we were standing by at the venue..

Flocks of people crowded the area not knowing what is happening there, was quite amazed due to the presence of the photographers..

We had like more than 30 photographers covering the whole event..

As soon as the VIPs, the Minister of Federal Territories and Mayor of Kuala Lumpur arrived, everyone proceeded to their seats and the event is getting started..

Together with me were my newly-partners in crime, Kristine and Flora, both are beginners in photography and very passionate and enthusiastic in this field..

Events or award galas are always started with opening speech and continued with few words from the organiser or chairman of that particular organisation..

*Award giving*

It’s award giving time and photographers and cameramen were all readied to shoot away each and every moment of the event..

With just a kitlens, I wasn’t really enthusiastic enough to shoot the whole, but I’m satisfied with my pics quality, despite the absence of a speedlite..

*Confetti*

Confetti were shot from the side of the stage and I almost blocked the “gun” as I didn’t really know it’s the thing for confetti..

I love these 2 shots with the confetti flying around..

After the award giving session, they adjourned to dinner on the upper floors, which was out of our scope..And so that’s the end of our job as well..

It’s a whole new experience in doing event photography and thanks to the organiser whom gave us the opportunity to try it out..

It’s quite fun but I doubt it would be something that I’ll be doing in photography..

I’m still very much in my landscape fetish and a bit of interest in studio photography..We’ll see how in the future..
