Timeout KL Presents On The Up @ No Black Tie – January

The every Wednesday of the third week of the month, Timeout KL presents On The Up, a music night at No Black Tie, in Jalan Mesui, next to Palate Palatte..

Again, some of us music lovers were there to support our local acts..All photos credits to David..

*L>R – Aaron, Me, Nigel*

*David and HsuJen*

The night kicked off with 2StoreyHeart, with only the vocalist, George Wong, playing that night..

*George Wong of 2StoreyHeart*

I must say that George is quite a talented composer, although most of the songs are very similar in terms of tunes and rhythms..

The only significant thing that differentiate the songs are the lyrics..Mostly emo songs..

The songs that he played that night were not bad, just that he screamed too much in his songs, although I must say that he controlled it very well..

Although it sounded loud, it didn’t really make my eardrums want to burst or whatsoever..

Perhaps he need to be more creative in his composing, instead of using the same tune for every song..

Then came second act of the night, Broken Scar..

*Broken Scar..Sorry don’t have a photo of the drummer*

Being a veteran in the music industry, Broken Scar definitely rocked the house down, with vocalist  Kevin Teh showed a great showmanship..

The other members of Alda Tan on bass, Paul Chuah (of Qings & Kueens) on guitar, and Alex Ang on drums did a great job too..

They invited violinist, Rohnie Tan to perform with them too..He’s great too! The first time I saw him performed together with Rendra Zawawi..Great job!

*Wonderful showmanship by guitarist and vocalist, Kevin Teh*

I just can’t get enough of Broken Scar after that..They are simply awesome..

Then third act of the night, Izzy Mohamed..Seriously, I thought Izzy Mohamed is a guy, until I saw HER on the stage~!

*Izzy Mohamed*

Izzy was doing great too..Slow melodic tune and together with her collaboration of Alda on the bass (again), a drummer, and also a female pianist..Nice songs..

*Secret Love Affair*

Secret Love Affair plays music of rock fusion..Indeed, I was amazed by their performance..

It gave me a feeling of Jamiroquai fusioned with The Killers, where electronica jazz meets 70′s rock style..

I enjoyed myself with the last act but the vocals were simply plain and under par..They seriously have to improve on the lyrics part..

Overall I am really satisfied with all of the performances, quite a rare case..LOL..

Of course, I’m looking forward to another gig by Broken Scar and the likes from any other veterans..

Timeout KL Presents On The Up – January

Yes, it’s the day of the month again, third week of the month and it’s On The Up, music night by Timeout KL, on 21st of January, Wednesday..

Again it’s at No Black Tie in Jalan Mesui, next to Palate Palatte only, starts at 8.30pm..Of course, it’s advisable for you to reserve a table or two if you are coming in group..

After a great night with Rendra Zawawi on my last visit back in November 2008 and I’ve missed the one in December 2008, I’m looking forward to this one..

Why you say? Because of its great line-up of artistes..

They have singer songwriter 2StoreyHeart, followed by acoustic singer songwriter Izzy Mohamed..Then they also have fusion rock group Secret Love Affair..

*Secret Love Affair, taken from their Myspace*

Check out Izzy’s Myspace and Secret Love Affair’s..

And last but not least, Brokenscar is in the house this time~!! The moniker of singer songwriter Kevin Teh, who sometimes perform alone, in a trio setting and a full on band..

First Comedy Thursday Of 2009 By Timeout KL

Yes people..It’s the first Thursday of 2009 and it’s Comedy Thursday again~!!

I still remember my first visit to Little Havana for Comedy Thursday and it was a night to remember because Hishamuddin Rais was there..

My second visit wasn’t really bad too..Team leader Chi Ho made it very well..I had some good laughs before 2008 ended..BEST~!!

This time around, the line-up is long haired guy Alfred, Zac (yet again), Yugi, Sri and Ian..

*Timeout KL host, Matt Salleh and comedian Alfred*

*Yugi Bear*

Well I’m not sure who is Sri and Ian but I’m expecting something good from them..

And please no more let down performance ala Davina Goh..It’s irritating and I don’t think it will be a crowd puller..

Be there at Little Havana on 8th January 2009 at 8.30pm to kick start your 2009 with some good laughs..

Anyway, check out the RM10 voucher HERE..

Last Comedy Thursday of 2008 @ Little Havana

Yeah guys..On 4th of December 2008 was the last day Timeout KL presents Comedy Thursday..You know why?

That is because Comedy Thursday is on every FIRST Thursday of the month..That’s why is was the last one..Hahaha..

*Look at the crowd..It’s full house again*

*Zac and Chi Ho*

Well, Zac was the last minute replacement for Yugi coz he wasn’t feeling well or something..

Perhaps it was quite last minute so he didn’t really prepared well? I don’t think his jokes were funny that night but I know he had tried his best..

Chi Ho, regarded as the team leader, didn’t quite pulled it off in the beginning with his slight racist joke..

I think he has this spontaneous thinking and all, he was able to change his route and rocked the house down with laughter everywhere..

His impersonation of an Ah Beng helped a lot in realizing his role..And I especially like his Michael Jackson don’t know how to dance joke..LOL..

*Davina Goh*

Right after Chi Ho was Davina Goh..If I’m not mistaken she joins theater play as well and I heard she’s quite good in acting?

But I was utterly disappointed with her..Yes her acting was very good that she almost made a fake cry during her performance..

But I found her performance was very very irritating as she kept screaming on the punch lines..The punch lines are the important essentials in making people laugh but, she screwed it BIG time..

Then the Stand-Up Team gave her a somewhat surprise belated birthday celebration..And the gestures that she made and all was overreacted and I don’t think I want to see her on stage anymore?

However, that’s her first performance..Perhaps she will do better if given a second chance?

*Kavin and Jimmy Hendrix*

Then came Kavin who joked about condoms, bananas, Indian guys’ eyes, Facebooks, and a bit of Indian culture..It was very funny indeed..I love the condom flavors joke..LOL!

Canadian Jimmy, a regular stand up comedian who travels around the world and I definitely love his I Hate Singapore song..It was so funny..I think he is of a different league coz he did stand-ups in The States for quite a number of times..

Check out the edited video at Nigel’s blog..Although it’s somewhat a summary but that’s what you can expect in 2009..

*Timeout KL Comedy Thursday*

Good bye 2008..HELLO 2009~!!!

Timeout KL – Comedy Thursday

Yes people..It’s time to laugh again..Timeout KL’s Comedy Thursday is here again..It’s at Little Havana again..

I’ve been waiting for…*counting with fingers*…don’t know how many weeks or days just for this..

I’ve had good laugh during my first visit where you can check it HERE, and I’m craving for more Russell Peters wannabe here..

This time around the stand up comedians are Chi Ho, Yugi, Kavin, Steve Northcott (Canadian guy), and Davina Goh..

Now to get to Little Havana is very easy..

Now Sungei Wang is on your left and Lot 10 is on your right..There are 2 lanes, make sure you are on the Sungei Wang side..

Go all the way straight heading to Istana Hotel..At the traffic light where you can see California Fitness and Lim Kok Wing signboard, turn left..

Right after Istana Hotel there’s a left turning into Jalan Nagasari..Turn into that road, go all the way until you reach the junction..At that junction, turn right..

On that road, Little Havana is at the end of the shoplots on your left..

The entrance fee is RM20, not-inclusive of drink..But you can printout the RM10 voucher in Timeout KL site HERE..With that voucher you will get RM10 off so you are only paying for RM10..

I’ll definitely be there..Give me a call if you guys are going over too!

Timeout KL – On The Up @ No Black Tie

Last Wednesday, 19th of November, Timeout KL once again organized a music night at No Black Tie, well known for hosting local gigs..

4 bands on the line-up, namely An Honest Mistake, The Bassment Syndicate, Alaling + The Kaya Koks, and Rendra Zawawi, as accordingly..

All photos credits to David and Fuzz..Wonder how is Nigel‘s video recording..

*Our table*

The attendees were David, Hsu Jen, Nigel, Aaron, Joshua, Celine, Fuzz, Dillon, Sue, Dahlia, Josephine, me, and of course Kelli..

Little did I know, most of the guys in my gang that night knows how to play music instruments..And I guess I’m the only noob there wtf..

Lucky we reserved a table there so not much hassle for us, as we heard it’s always packed in No Black Tie..

As expected, the place was quite packed, perhaps due to its big-sized tables and chairs..Hence it’s a bit crammed..

Considering this was my first time and I have no experience about local gigs, still I would prefer a bigger and more spacious venue..It could’ve been better..

*An Honest Mistake*

*Darren on vocals and acoustic guitar*

Well I definitely love An Honest Mistake..Although I’ve not listen to much local bands nowadays, it gives me a feeling of Lifehouse, Green Day, and a bit of Disagree..

I especially like the cute sweet-looking guitarist..Yes, the female guitarist..She’s damn pretty and cute..Plus I love her wavy hair! I so want to get that 4 years ago..
