Zac Efron Is Charlie St Cloud – Non-spoiler Review

Charlie St Cloud (Zac Efron), a young chap with bright future in sailing is very close to his younger brother, Sam St Cloud (Charlie Tahan)..

Their bond is so close that Sam couldn’t depart with Charlie who is going to further his study in Stanford University, receiving sailing scholarship from it..

One night, both of them met with a serious accident and Sam died from it while Charlie is saved in a matter of thin line between life and death..

charlie st cloud

In the cemetary, Charlie starts to see Sam’s spirit..Don’t want to leave his younger brother alone, Charlie promised Sam to meet him in the forest teach him to play baseball everyday at sunset..Later he became the cemetary caretaker..

5 years later, the routine to play with Sam is still on going, and Charlie met his ex-classmate Tess Carroll in the cemetary..

Tess Carroll (Amanda Crew) is also a sailor and is determined to join the sailing solo competition..Charlie wanted to join but he’s torn between sailing, loving Tess, and being there for his brother Sam..

The storyline is pretty much predictable and I was hoping for a surprise sad ending because the trailer looks pretty sad..

I was all ready to tear my manly tears but the essence isn’t there for me to cry and mind you, I’m quite an emotional guy when it comes to sad movies..

But of course I would say some people could totally relate to the incidents when tragedy happens to someone close to you..There comes the manly tears..

Overall I would rate it a 6/10 for not making my teared and I bet girls would still want to catch the cute guy Zac Efron on the screen..

Also thanks to UIP for the movie tickets..

Love In Disguise And Wang Lee Hom – Ni Bu Zhi Dao De Shi

Watched Love In Disguise, a movie starring Wang Lee Hom, soundtrack by Wang Lee Hom, and directed by Wang Lee Hom..All thanks to Sony Music..

Like them on Sony Music Facebook Fanpage and follow them on Twitter @sonymusicmy! Of course do check out their website at Sony Music as well..

I can tell you that it is my first time watching Mandarin language movie in cinema..I’ve even watched Thai movie twice in the cinema!

Anyway, back to the movie..I kinda love Wang Lee Hom‘s songs so in this movie I actually expected to hear lots of it..

Love In Disguise is about Du Ming Han (Wang Lee Hom), a famous popstar artiste who found his soul-mate in a car accident..

Apparently his soul-mate, Xiao Qing (Crystal Liu) is a music student who plays the guzheng and that attracts DMH..

DMH disguised as another person to hide his famous identity and enrolled into the music academy to get to know more about Xiao Qing..

DMH’s interest in Xiao Qing slowly developed into love but Xiao Qing has another love interest..

So the love story sets in from there..

Story wise, it’s quite a typical love story with an expected storyline..

IMHO, the downside of the movie is its poor dialogue, a very typical style in most of Taiwanese drama which I didn’t really like..

Anyhow, I always hear laughter from teenagers, laughing away at those dialogues, nevertheless..So, perhaps it’s not my cup of tea..

Overall, the message is there just that I feel it’s a bit lacked in both visual and dialogue presentation, especially the typical exaggerated silly acting ala Taiwanese drama..

It could be a good movie, if not great, if the script is more matured than just targeted at young audiences..I bet Wang Lee Hom could fare better in his next movie, should he directing another one..

I’m giving it a moderate 5/10, just because the theme song is freaking nice!

Here’s a MTV and pinyin lyrics of the theme song, “Ni Bu Zhi Dao De Shi” (All The Things You Never Knew) by Wang Lee Hom..

Despicable Me 3D – Non-Spoiler Review

“Does this count as annoying?” *pok pok pok pok pok*..Yes, that’s the cute action by the little girl Agnes while she slaps her own cheeks to create that cute annoying sound..

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y7W6BaNs_I]

Despicable Me 3D, one of the most hyped animations this year with the cute little yellow Minions that like to punch and beat around the bush face..

Thanks to UIP for the movie ticket for such an early screening..

The plot centers around Gru, a villain trying to be, well, one of the greatest villains of all time, try to steal the moon..

He’s pretty nasty and wicked towards anyone or anything, except his mother..

The usual plot of hero vs villain is so yesteryear and that’s how Despicable Me sells, villain vs villain..

Everything is so evil they even have an underground Bank of Evil to fund the villains in their evil deeds..

I bet most people would ask whether it is worth to watch in 3D and all..

Indeed Despicable Me tried to put in as much 3D elements as they could but it’s hardly felt in most scenes..

Don’t get me wrong..Hardly felt 3D elements here I was referring to eye-popping scenes such as bullets flying right beside your head, and something that actually interacts with the audience..

The one I felt the most was the roller coaster scene where it does really feels like you are sitting in it going down the track at 90-degree..

Other than that, all in all I think it’s just so-so, maybe because I’ve had high expectation in it..

So my advice is enter the cinema with empty or lower expectations, that would be better..

And of course it’s a perfect family movie because kids would love the cute Minions..

I can assure you that none of the scene involving the lil’ Minions isn’t funny at all..They can make the cinema laugh hysterically with just one movement, or one word in their language..

With 3 children character of Margo, Edith, and Agnes, you can also expect quite a number of “awww moments” in this movie..

Overall I would give it a 7/10 rating..

P/S – Stay seated at the end of the movie with your 3D glasses on because that’s what I hope most of those 3D element scene to be included in the movie itself..

Enjoy the spectacular effects where the Minions trying to reach out to the audience by sticking out their hands, using a ladder, and also long-sharp rocket-shaped thingy..

IT’S SO FLUFFY I’M GONNA DIE~!!!!!!

Shrek The Final Chapter 3D : Forever After – Non Spoiler

Shrek franchise is back and in its Final Chapter called Shrek The Final Chapter : Forever After..

Was telling some friends that I was going to watch Shrek 4, most of them went “What Shrek 4?? it’s the 3rd only right??”..

Even I got confused myself after..One thing for sure, I could remember the trilogy has finished and I was surprised when I saw the trailer for Forever After..

shrek-forever-after-2010-cd-cover-27440

And so, it’s confirmed it’s the 4th instalment and perhaps the last one in Shrek franchise..

To be honest, I’ve never really sat down and watch the first 2 Shrek movies before, where the first two movies said to be the most successful in its franchise, let alone the 3rd one..

Shrek The Final Chapter is about Shrek living happily with Princess Fiona and their 3 children..

For Shrek being an ogre, he’s not used to the peaceful life of the fairy tales and nursery rhymes where the “live happily ever after” quote is applied..

So Shrek wanted to experience his ogre-life once again and that’s where Rumplestilskin (or just Rumple) comes into play..

shrek-forever-after

And so the main plot starts from Shrek trying to get his life back, in a way or another..Hehe..

I’ve watched this Forever After in 3D (thanks to UIP), unfortunately I couldn’t really feel much of the 3D effect..Or maybe I was expecting too much? It’s my second 3D movie anyway, first one being How To Train Your Dragon..

I can’t really compare this with the first 3 since I’ve never really watched those but as Shrek is concerned, it’s always a good family movie..

I would rate it at 7/10..See for youself for your own rating ;)

Robin Hood 2010 Review – Non Spoiler

Robin Hood, from my understanding of Mr. Robin is that he’s an outlaw hero..He robs from the rich and helps the poor..

That’s all I know about Mr. Robin Hood..Owh, not to forget he’s good in archery and he stays in the forest..

If I’ve watched Kevin Costner’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) that might help a bit but unfortunately I didn’t watch the whole thing..So I know nothing about it..

The new Robin Hood (2010), actor Russell Crowe team-up again with director Ridley Scott (they did it for Gladiator) and I bet most people expect something as epic as Gladiator..

robinhood
*Taken from robinhoodthemovie.com*

Honestly, I didn’t watch the whole movie of Gladiator so I wasn’t expecting any epicness from Robin Hood..

Read some reviews on papers and it’s said that this Robin Hood movie is the one with the oldest pair-up of Robin Longstride (Russell Crowe) and Lady Marion (Cate Blanchett), age 46 and 41 respectively..

robinhood3
*Robin Longstride and Lady Marion – taken from robinhoodthemovie.com*

Statistics aside, I was quite anticipated when I was watching the trailers before the movie started..Movie ticket thanks to UIP..And so the movie started, so am I with a bit of story-telling..

Being an ancient-background movie, set in the late 12th century England, we can expect a lot of knights with steel chains and armors and wielding swords and shields..

robinhood1
*Taken from robinhoodthemovie.com*

The script is somewhat humorous ala Pirates of The Caribbean, which I don’t really find it amusing but I don’t hate it..

Plot wise, I like it a lot because it depicts the life of Robin Longstride on how he became the legendary Robin Hood..

Well, I’m a history kinda person so yeah..King Richard the Lionheart, check..Robin Hood, check..Battle of the knights, check..

So if you enter the cinema thinking you already know who is Robin Hood, I guess you better think twice..

robinhood2
*Taken from robinhoodthemovie.com*

The climax, expect a lot of Legolas (LOTR) shooting arrows..Okay, not that many but it’s part of the story-telling of Robin Longstride’s highly skilled archery..So you’ll still see quite a number of it..

Other than that, it also depicts the unification of the English knights when Phillip of France attacked England..And of course why Robin Hood is exiled in the forest..

Although the story is a bit slow-pace but it’s my type of movie..I like drama..LOL~!!

By the way, from the look of the ending, I’m expecting a sequel from it..Well I can’t be sure and I’m just speculating..

I would give it a 7/10 because I like the plot but minus the epic..But then again, it’s just me..

Like how people like Pirates of The Caribbean but I’ve never liked it..So yeah, watch it and rate it yourself ;)
