Sunburst Music Festival @ Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club – N.E.R.D And Korn

Now, at last, it’s N.E.R.D in da house..N.E.R.D is a rock, funk, hip hop band formed by Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, later joined by Shay Haley..

Photos credit to Jen, Nigel, and David..

Their performance started later than scheduled and with sound-check and all, the crowd was cheering, and some jeering because it was getting a bit late..

Well honestly, I know shits about N.E.R.D and I got no idea about the tracks or songs..

By the time N.E.R.D was getting ready to take the stage, some hardcore rockers and I were already waiting for Korn on the other side of the stage..

As soon as they started off with the first track, everyone was mosh-pitting and it was great..

Great thing was, Pharrell made some mandatory rules about getting into the spirit of partying with them..

He said, there MUST be crowd-surfing (which I’ve always wanted to try), MUST be most-pits, and also few other rules which I’ve forgotten..

That didn’t take long for the crowd to abide by the rules and crowd-surfing can been few times during their performance..

Roughly into the third track, some people pushed the security guards at the front of the stage..Pharrell was so mad that the crowd was pushing around and all..

He even said that if there’s any more pushings, they’ll leave the stage for good..The crowd was smart enough and didn’t push anymore..

I must say that N.E.R.D‘s showmanship and to move the crowd into party was really great..

To reward the crowd for abiding by the rules and for not pushing around, they first grabbed about 10 guys up on the stage and they began to mosh-pit and danced on the stage with the international act..

Then on the next track, roughly another 20 guys were pulled up to the stage and they really had fun up there..

After about 2 tracks, the guys left the stage..This time, N.E.R.D pulled the girls onto the stage..

Well, like I said they did a very great job in moving the crowd and I guessed they got a bit hyped up, they pulled at least 50 ladies onto the stage to party with them..

That was totally awesome shit that could happen to an international act..

They performance lasted near to an hour, and they began to switch stage for Korn..

Korn wasn’t even ready and still behind the backdrop, people already crowded the front stage and chanting the band name..

When the Korn word is being displayed on the screen, people started to cheer and really, Jonathan Davis and his bandmates all coming out to take on their music equipments..

They kicked off their performance with “Got The Life” if I remember correctly..

Mosh-pits began built up at the front stage and to make sure we are all safe, Jen, Junn, and I moved backwards to avoid the hardcores..

Then, the euphoric moment came when they played “A.D.I.D.A.S” as the second track if I’m not mistaken..That was like the moment that everyone had been waiting for..

Well, the mosh-pits were still bearable and we really had fun head-banging and all..

After about 20-minutes, they took a quick rest behind the stage..Then Jonathan came out with a bagpipe in hand and blowing it like nobody’s business..

Since it’s bagpipe, I thought they were going to sing “Shoot And Ladders”..Unfortunately, they didn’t sing that and proceed with “Blind”..

In “Blind”, not long after the introlude, there’s a sentence where Jonathan is screaming “Are you ready??” in his grunt voice..

Same thing, as soon as he screamed that, the mosh-pits began to body-slammed each other massively..

We couldn’t handle the excessive slammings so we moved further backwards..

All in all, I enjoyed myself very much to Korn’s live performance that I actually let off my hair and started to head-banging like some crazy lady guy in Hospital Bahagia..

The only thing I was not satisfied is, they played most songs from their earlier albums and very little of their signature singles..

I was hoping for their hit singles of “Word Up” or “Twisted Transistor” but to no avail, they didn’t..

They did sang “Freak On A Leash”, “Here To Stay”, “Right Now”, and “Thoughtless”, to name a few..Few more others I’ve not heard of them so I’m not sure whether they are of older albums or the newer ones..

Korn ended their performance at about 1am and it was a great performance..

We were exhausted at the end of the festival and didn’t stay back for Twilight Action Girl..We made our move back home for some serious supper meal..

My body was aching like hell for the next 4-days after all the head-banging and all..My neck was stiff that I could barely move my head..

Sunburst Music Festival @ Bukit Kiara Equatrian Club – Night Time

After the day time where most performers were local artistes except for Russian Winters and Sixx (Indonesia), night time has arrived and it was the time for the main acts..

First off, local band Estranged kicked off the evening slot at about 7.30pm..Well I missed the opening part, was there when it’s about to end..It was quite a show..

*Sing your lungs out*

That’s Estranged‘s vocalist Rich doing his thang..

*This pic is damn nice*

When you couldn’t squeeze yourself into the crowd, you just have to stand far away and of course, equipped with some sophisticated gadget, that’s a DSLR with a 300mm F2.8 lens..

*The Nikon 300mm F2.8 cannon*

That thing is damn heavy and it needs a bit of strength to hold it..Advice, use a monopod or tripod..

Andrew got to shoot the whole event with that cannon, but at the same time have to carry it everywhere he went..

Next of after Estranged‘s performance, Nidji (Indonesia) took the stage and they were really good..

Initial I thought it must be some crappy band or something but when they played along, I’ve heard of few tracks on the radio..

Their showmanship were simply awesome! I bet it’s as good as any international act, if not better..

Right after Nidji‘s overwhelming performance, it’s local artiste’s turn, veteran band Butterfingers..

I guessed the crowd put high hope on Butterfingers but I would say that Butterfingers let us down, big time, especially after a great performance from Nidji..

*Butterfingers on stage*

I don’t know why but it seemed that Butterfingers totally let the audience down, big time!

They did some slow-mo tracks instead of some fast-paced to hype up the crowd..

To make matters worse, the crowd chanted and requested for “The Chemistry”, one of Butterfingers signature tracks, but they never intended to listen to its fans..

After about 3 tracks, the crowd started to get bored and some of them dispersed the front stage..They performed for about 30-minutes or so, that’s about 6 tracks..

The remaining crowd requested for an encore and again “The Chemistry”, they decided to stop there and then with a bow and thank you note..

That’s why I said the performance from Butterfingers was a big disappointment..

After Butterfingers, it was Agrikulture, another Indonesian band, took the stage..They played some electrofunk-synthesizer-mix and surprisingly quite a number of people liked it..

Where as for me, I felt the vocalist was a bit gay..No, not happily gay..Gay as in homo gay..The vocalist even took off his pants in the middle of their performance, left him with his jacket and boxers..

Well, I don’t know why but I felt a bit irritating..Maybe I was too excited with the Korn hype and not quite interested in other so so bands..

Okay, more on Korn and N.E.R.D in next one..This post is getting too long..

N.E.R.D in action!

Sunburst Music Fetival @ Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club – Day Time

Okay this is one quite a delayed post coz was waiting for the photos, then busy mode, edit photos, and err, lots of other things..

And before that, I’ve a good news and a bad news..The good news is I just finished my exam on Thursday and I feel great..Even went to clubbing right after that..

The bad news is I only have 1 week holiday before the new semester starts..When students from other uni or colleges finished their exams in early May, I’ve already into the second week of the new sem..Sucks..

Anyway, Sunburst Music Festival, a whole day long awesome event, was brought to you by Pineapple Event on 28th March 2009..

It’s in its second consecutive years, the first was in 2008 (of course), where the main internationals acts were John Legend and Incubus..

This year, we had lots of rumours going on and on with not even a single confirmed artiste, until roughly 2-weeks before the event..

It’s the least you would expect them to come and it was KORN~!!!! In the picture was also N.E.R.D, a hiphop group of Pharrell’s..

Well, I didn’t even plan to go to the event because the ticket cost RM140 for pre-sale and RM200 for door-sale..

On the event day itself (Saturday), Junn called me in the early morning (about 9am) and asked me whether I want to go to Sunburst or not..

Still in dreamland, I asked him was it tomorrow coz I thought that day was Friday..Then only I know it’s Saturday after few funny arguments..

Then Junn told me that Lohman couldn’t make it to Sunburst due to emergency..Since he already got the ticket, might as well give it away, else will be thrown into the bin..

Junn knowing I’m quite a fan of Korn, thus the morning call..Well instead of throwing it away, I’d gladly receive it~!!

Ok, friendship aside, I planned to pay back Lohman to compensate for his lost..It isn’t really good to get it for free, even though it might be in the bin if I wasn’t going..

So Junn, Jen, and I went to Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club and reached the place slightly before 4pm..

There, we met Andrew, Nigel, Kelli, Hsu Jen, David, and Chris..

*Sunburst at Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club*

I’m a Musicon Celebrity thanks to Maxis Broadband

Everyone wants to be a music celebrity, just because they are cool that way..

Anyone can be a music celebrity, from Youtube fame Marie Digby to you-wouldn’t-understand-a-single-word-he-sings Sean Paul to you-hate-him-after-listening-his-song-for-50-times Sean Kingston..

But, no matter how annoying or how infamous that person is, music celebrity is always cool with the way they look..

They can dress anything they like, they can put whatever accessories they want, but no people cares..They even called it fashion and trend..

Think Nelly with his golden grillz..

Think hip hoppers like Snoop Dogg and their big ass bling blings..

Think Lady Gaga..For her, less is more..

Don’t you think it’s cool? Their fashion sense are a bit haywired but still it’s some big thing that people would remember for the rest of their life..

As for me, if I’m a music celebrity, I would party all the way, and to feed my fans with bottomless of gigs and concerts..

Well, with my outlook and with people’s impression, I can’t even start off with a boy next door image..It’s just wrong..

As a fan of rock genre, I’ve always got associated with it because of my hair..

You will see me headbanging every once in a while, and that’s when I’m in the mood to do so..

It’s no secret that my initial intention to keep long hair is to don a cool hairdo, like corn-row braid or dreadlock kinda thing..

Now talk about dreadlock, I’ve always like Korn and the hairdo of the vocalist, Jonathan Davis..

I don’t know why but his dreadlock simply looks clean to me, if compare to many other dreadlockers wtf..

If I’m a music celebrity, I’ll simply hold gigs every once a month, entry is just for people with long hair, and dreadlockers would have special treatment..

Now I’m setting a trend of my own..Hahahaha..Yeah call me a hair-cist or whatever..How’s that?

Who cares about red carpet? Everyone is talking about green now..On a side note, rocker like me won’t care about Earth Hour..FUCK HELL YEAH~!!!

I’ll just jam whole day long in gigs and let the people bang their heads, pun intended..

Then I’ll be in on stage and see what Jonathan Davis is seeing..I wonder how does it feel to see people headbang like how I did during Sunburst KL 2009 when Korn was performing and they were playing A.D.I.D.A.S..

Now, who doesn’t want to be a music icon? At least I want..

So umm..See you guys at Nuffnang Music Bash 2009, powered by Maxis Broadband..
