Faye Wong – Hong Dou (Red Bean)

Faye Wong, one of Hong Kong or China finest female singesr of all time due to her distinctive vocal techniques, namely singing it like Dolores O’Riordan, vocalist of Irish rock band The Cranberries..

Born in Beijing, she has gained numerous achievements in the East Asia, including becoming the first Chinese singer to feature in a video game theme, Final Fantasy VIII for “Eyes On Me”..

The CD single has sold over 400,000 copies and later on became the first video game song to win an award at the 14th Annual Japan Gold Disc Awards, where it won the “Song of The Year (Western Music)” in 2000..

In the same CD single, it also features “Red Bean (Hong Dou)” in the 3-tracks CD, where “Hong Dou” is released in Faye Wong’s 1998 album, Scenic Tour..

“Red Bean (Hong Dou)” is about a relationship where a person is missing the other half..

This song is then covered by HK sensation Khalil Fong, but I found it a bit gay, though some might beg to differ..For me, the original version still rocks!

So here’s the music video of Faye Wong‘s “Red Bean (Hong Dou)” and pin yin lyrics..

Faye Wong – Red Bean (Hong Dou)

hai mei hao hao de gan shou
(I haven’t yet experienced)

xue hua zhan fang de qi hou
(The feeling of a wintry snowfall)

wo men yi qi chan dou
(We will tremble together)

hui geng ming bai, shen me shi wen rou
(And better understand, what gentleness is)

hai mei gen ni qian zhe shou
(I haven’t yet held hands with you)

zou guo huang wu de sha qiu
(To walk across this untamed desert)

ke neng cong ci yi hou
(Perhaps from now on)

xue hui zhen xi, tian chang he di jiu
(We will learn to treasure, eternal love)

you shi hou, you shi hou
(Sometimes, sometimes)

wo hui xiang xin yi qie you jin tou
(I believe that everything has an end)

xiang ju li kai, dou you shi hou
(In meeting and parting, there are times)

mei you shen me hui yong chui bu xiu
(Where neither will last forever)

ke shi wo, you shi hou
(But I, sometimes)

ning yuan xuan ze liu lian bu fang shou
(Would rather choose to love and not let go)

deng dao feng shui dou kan tou
(Until we’ve seen all there is to see)

ye xu ni hui pei wo, kan xi shui chang liu
(Perhaps you’ll spend eternity with me)

hai mei wei ni ba hong dou
(I haven’t turned the red beans)

ao cheng chan mian de shang kou
(Into persistent scars)

ran hou yi qi fen xiang
(To be shared by us both)

hui geng ming bai, xiang si de ai chou
(So we can better understand, the pain of unrequited love)

hai mei hao hao de gan shou
(I haven’t yet experienced)

xing zhe qin wen de wen rou
(The warmth of a waking kiss)

ke neng zai wo zuo you
(Perhaps around me)

ni cai zhui qiu, gu du de zi you
(You have begun to pursue, a lonely freedom)

you shi hou, you shi hou
(Sometimes, sometimes)

wo hui xiang xin yi qie you jin tou
(I believe that everything has an end)

xiang ju li kai, dou you shi hou
(In meeting and parting, there are times)

mei you shen me hui yong chui bu xiu
(Where neither will last forever)

ke shi wo, you shi hou
(But I, sometimes)

ning yuan xuan ze liu lian bu fang shou
(Would rather choose to love and not let go)

deng dao feng shui dou kan tou
(Until we’ve seen all there is to see)

(Perhaps you’ll spend eternity with me)
