After you have read about the “main applications” in a BlackBerry, now it’s time to test DiGi 3G coverage, whether is it worth its RM58/month low price..
Not that i’m comparing it with other telcos but it’s fine to just comment on the DiGi line itself..
*BB Curve 8520 on GSM*
On start-up, my BB Curve 8520 is always on GSM aka 2G before it handover to EDGE due to the limitations of BB Curve 8520..
Curve 8520 doesn’t support 3G so the optimum signal it can get is EDGE..
*BB on edge connection*
If you see “edge”, that’s small letters, beware and NOT to surf around if you have subscribed data plan..
The “edge” connection is actually a normal connection that will charge you based on the amount of data you have used..
So if you surf or use applications when this “edge” sign is showing, it’s a sign that your data plan isn’t ready yet and you better tell DiGi about this problem..
The real sign that should be showing is the capital letters of “EDGE”, which means you are now running on data plan instead of pay-as-you-use rates..
If a phone can support 3G connection, it will show 3G and if in areas that have low 3G signal, the sign on your phone will drop down to EDGE or maybe GSM depending on the coverage of the areas..
So far my BB’s signal has never drop to GSM even when I was around outskirt area such as Cyberjaya and South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE)..
I tried to make phone calls and I was amazed with its reception..
My biggest problem with my previous telco is the reception in my room..
I, as a Communication & Electronic Engineering student knows that the reception will drop if one is surrounded by walls or buildings..
So I couldn’t blame the telco for the bad reception but I couldn’t really bear with it especially when I pick up phone calls when I’m still sleeping..
I have to get up and find the best spot for the reception..
Tried with DiGi, I talked with no reception problem in every corner in my room..Asked my friend if there is any cracking or “robotic” sound, a firm NO is replied..
I am more than happy to stay loyal to DiGi just because of that..LOL~!!
Although last week there’s a slight mishap with its slow connection but they have swiftly restored its stable connection..
Even though DiGi is a new player in 3G coverage but as of late it has improved a lot and I bet they will keep on improving to accommodate its customers’ needs with the rapid growth of BB users..
Yes, I’m using a Blackberry Curve 8520 and like I’ve did some tutorial on how to use a DSLR before, I’ve decided to give a slight bit of tutorial on what you can expect from a BB Curve 8520..
IMHO, BB Curve-Series is an economic BB, where its specs are far more inferior if compared to its fellow BB of the Storm-Series and Bold-Series hence the more affordable price..
Even so, a BB Curve could do wonders that most normal phones cannot do..
One of BB’s strongest fundamental features is the Push-Mail function..
*BB Curve 8520 - Push-mail*
I’ve integrated my Gmail with my BB Push-mail function and now I receive mails just like I receive SMSes..
I don’t have to download my mail nor wait for it to load, I just open my mails on my BB just like how people open their SMSes..
Other than Push-Mail, one of BB’s stronghold that I would say could change the SMS world in the near future, is the Blackberry Messenger (BBM)..
BBM is almost like any IM application but it’s for BB users only..
*BBM Barcode*
With BBM, one can key-in the user’s phone number or his/her BB-PIN to add a contact..
To make it more high-tech, you can display your BB’s Barcode, then scan the barcode through another BB’s camera..
You can also screenshot your BB Barcode, display it in your blog or somewhere so that other people can scan your Barcode without you telling them your BB-PIN..
After you’ve added your friend’s BB contact, you will no longer have to SMS your friend..You can message your friend via BBM..
That’s why I said it will change the SMS world in the near future..Honestly, I felt more intimate to chat with my friends on BBM rather than other IMs..
Other than that, there are few other apps that can be used and very popular as of late, such as Twitter..BB’s Twitter apps are the 2 more recognisable TwitterBerry and UberTwitter..
UberTwitter provides a much neat and better platform as compared to TwitterBerry..
STOP MOTION FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU~!!!*raise hands up in the air and profusely shaking crotch*
I guess most of you have seen my GIF images and all..All these while I’ve been planning something as big as this one..
It’s called Stop Motion or maybe Time Lapse, I’m not sure..I think Time Lapse best describe the theme of my project as Stop Motion often related to animations by using certain objects..
In this project, patience is the key to success..
Why so? Because for what I’m showing here is taken in 2 hours time, from 3pm to 5pm..And in that 2 hours time, 202 photos had been snapped, with each photo taken every 20-40 seconds..
The sky has been hazy for the past few weeks due to forest burning and all, and on that very day, 24th August 2009, Monday, the sky was bright and blue..
Got my camera readied on the tripod, set aperture to F10, adjust shutter speed accordingly to get constant exposure of +0.7..
So I started to press the shutter button on the house balcony for straight 2 hours..
Due to the exhaustion of the camera battery because I didn’t charge it up before I snapped, I’ve got 202 photos until the battery was dried up..
Then, opened my SONY Vegas Movie software, compiled all of the 202 photos, insert a nice song, voila! I’m done..
Enjoy the relaxing video with a relaxing song from Spirited Away OST, Day of The River, composed by Joe Hisaishi..
Oh, remember to watch it on FULL SCREEN MODE~!!!!
I know it’s not a perfect video but I must say I gave it a nice try, and it’s only my 3rd attempt, after the first two failed..
There’s still plenty of space for improvement..So I plan to charge up my battery and snap up to at least 500 photos to make up for my wonderful project..
Here’s a video that was shared by Ren on plurk the other day, Isao Machii, a modern samurai..
Yes, how often do you heard of samurai or ninja other than anime or japanese movie or drama? The answer is none, most likely..
But this fella, Isao Machii, holds 2 Guinness World Records in the somewhat samurai category..
The first one was in 2007, 1000 rolls of straws are cut in 36-minutes and the second one was in 2008, to have 7 cuts on a roll of not fixed straws (mat), without dropping it from its standing position..
By wielding his zanpakutou samurai sword, he’s almost invincible, by cutting anything and almost everything in every way..
The most incredible thing are his eye sight, accuracy, speed, and strength..It’s all simply amazing shits..
Before I missing in action (MIA) for my exam for the next 3 days straight that is second paper on 21st, third paper on 22nd, and fourth paper on 23rd, this is what you get..
Time flies and what do you know..DGMB has been in existence for 1 year, unknowingly..
