It’s already mid-January and Chinese New Year (CNY) is just a month away, falling exactly on the Valentine’s Day, Febuary 14th 2010..
I bet everyone has been busy spring cleaning and shopping for CNY clothes a.k.a red clothes or anything that is bright..
But one must remember that in our Chinese custom, eating good food is considered as a fortune or luck because a lot of people died of hunger in every other part of the world..
Being able to eat good food is a kind of fortune to us Chinese, hence we must appreciate food more..
So here I’m giving you an option of a restaurant for your family dinner during CNY..
It’s House of Tang, situated in one of the stretch of restaurants along One Bangsar in Jalan Ara, Bangsar..
*House of Tang*
This is what you will see from the main road when you are going up the slope from the Bangsar mosque..
The Bangsar mosque is on your right, where it’s beside Bangsar Village 1 open carpark, go up the slope, you will see House of Tang on your right..
*Yumcha and Dimsum*
House of Tang opens from 10.30am-2.30pm and 6.30pm-10.30pm daily, except for Tuesday which is their off day..
You can choose to dine-in or out if you are a smoker..Both sections are pretty chilling..
The concept of House of Tang is to make you feel homely, with their homely decorations and also homely dishes..
One more thing, their food are all MSG-FREE~!!
*The usual foodies*
Thanks to Richard and Edward we are able to dine here and thanks to Sid for inviting us..
So before we start to eat anything, it’s good to take few sips of hot Chinese tea to clear your taste buds and also your throat..
*Salmon Yee Sang with Crispy Shredded Treasures in Plum Dressing*
To usher the CNY 2010, one must not left out the Chinese custom food for CNY which is Yee Sang..
For Chinese, Yee Sang is not a neccessity but it’s somewhat a practise with a hope to bring in fortune, wealth, and health..Yes, very typical Chinese indeed..
The restaurant has served this Yee Sang (?????) with the right amount of oil and sauce which is not too dry nor too wet..
I’m not really a fan of Yee Sang but the fresh salmon here makes me want more!
*Shark’s Fin Soup with Dried Scallop in Winter Melon*
*Richard doing his thang*
The Shark’s Fin Soup (????? ???????) is quite smooth and it’s not very thick..A lot of people tend to take lesser shark’s fin soup during a meal because the thick broth makes one feel very full..
The texture is just nice which allows us to continue on with our feast..
Continue on with more than 10 awesome dishes for your CNY family dinner..Also do download the menu for CNY and regular days at the bottom of the entry..
*House of Tang Braised Pork Trotter*
This House of Tang Braised Pork Trotter (????? ????) I must say is sinfully irresistible..The thick layer of fat underneath the pigskin is oh-so-yummy that it goes very well with the sauce..
But I must warn you first that if you can’t stand the smell of pork, you might want to avoid this dish as the pork stench is quite strong..
Other than that, this dish is marvelous..The juicy meat is very tender which complements well with the not too juicy fat..
*Japanese Style Fleshy Prawns (Ming Ha)*
The Japanese Style Fleshy Prawns (??????) were fried to crunchy perfection which I ate the whole thing, not a thing left..Yes, I wallop the whole thing including its shell and even the prawn head..
The prawns were quite fresh and I bet the young and the old would love this dish a lot as it’s not spicy nor salty or anything..
The taste is good and crunchy to my liking..Nice!
*Assam Tom Yam Garoupa (Grouper) Fish*
The Assam Tom Yam Garoupa Fish (???????) is, very suitable to my liking of non-sour palate..The sourness is just nice, not too sour..
I know, people are dying for sourness in assam tom yam but not me..My palate can’t take sour food/drinks..
But I like this one very much especially the assam gravy, it’s very appetizing!
*Baked Chicken with Herbs*
The Baked Chicken with Herbs (?????) is definitely very tender with the strong aroma of herbs filling the palate..
This is one good chicken dish but my family has never favored to order chicken dish whenever we eat out..I know, weird family I have..
*Double Boiled Soup of The Day – Coconut Double Boiled with Chicken*
After few sinful of high cholesterol and fattening dishes, it’s good to put a halt and clear our throats with some awesome possum Double Boiled Soup..
*Chicken Double Boiled with Red Dates and Herbs*
We were given 3 different Double Boiled Soup (????) and they were awesome, boiled to perfection where the taste and fragrance are really strong..
I’ve forgotten what’s in that 2 bowls but I remember one of it was red dates kinda double boiled soup..
Do ask what’s their double boiled soup of the day..All are awesome!
*Braised Pork with Soya Sauce*
The Braised Pork with Soya Sauce (???) is of course, another sinful dish that Chinese will never miss during big celebrations like CNY..
The pork meat is very tender and the “mun tou” kinda bun goes very well with the soya sauce..
*Special Home Made Layered Beancurd*
This Special Home Made Layered Beancurd (??????) is another surprise of the night, the beancurd is very smooth and goes well with the gravy..
*French Beans with Preserved Olives and Minced Meat*
The French Beans with Preserved Olives and Minced Meat (???????) is a simply dish that is very much true to House of Tang’s way of doing business, which is to make you feel at home..
Nevertheless this is a very homely dish that could never go with if you want to order anything green..
*Claypot Pork Belly with Lotus Root*
Claypot Pork Belly with Lotus Root (?????) definitely is one of my favourite dishes of the night..
Pork belly are cut into thin slices with well-balance of meat and fat on each slice..The lotus roots are very crispy as well..
I can go on and on eating the pork belly slices non-stop!
Then we have a plate of Hokkien Mee, the flavor wasn’t too strong as a lot of places the cook would put a generous amount of dark soy sauce thus making it a bit salty..
The flavor is just right if you aren’t into salty and just add-on some soy sauce to adjust the saltiness to your liking..
*Braised Dried Oysters with Fatt Choy, Black Mushrooms, Shell Fish, and Wok Fried Greens*
This Braised Dried Oysters with Fatt Choy, Black Mushrooms, Shell Fish, and Wok Fried Greens (????? ????????) is another favourite of mine..
The oysters are very tender with the right amount of fatt choy, not too much of it..
If you do not like mushrooms and shell fish, you can replace them with sea cucumber and top shell (????? ????????)..
*Steamed Rice with Waxed Meat in Lotus Leaf*
I pretty like this Steamed Rice with Waxed Meat in Lotus Leaf (????? ?????) because of its rice..
It’s not exactly glutinous rice but normal rice which resembles fried rice, where fried rice is best cooked using overnight rice..
This rice is not sticky at all hence the somewhat fluffy kinda feeling because the rice are sporadic-like..
The waxed meat are also tender but quite salty, very common for waxed meat..Best eaten with cili padi..Stim~!!
*Glutinous Rice Dumplings with Sea Coconut in Iced Lemon Syrup and Crisp Fried Chinese Brown Sugar Cake*
The flour-ish taste of glutinous rice dumpling is best eaten with the sweet taste of sea coconut and the iced lemon syrup..
It’s not too sweet, just right, very cooling after some wholesome fulfilling meal..
*Bowls of glutinous rice dumplings in lemon syrup*
The Crisp Fried Chinese Brown Sugar Cake (????? ????) is a bit thick to chew, especially for the elderly people..Dip it into the lemon syrup will make it tastes better!
Fret not, it’s not as hard as you think but we had a bit of difficulty after eaten so many fattening dishes..
*Tau Fu Fah with Almond Cream*
This Tau Fufah with Almond Cream (??????) is one weird but nice tau fu fah I’ve ever had..Not like any other tau fu fah where it will fall apart when you scoop it, this tau fu fah will still stick together in a piece..
The texture might not be as smooth as I’ve tried in other places but nevertheless it’s a very nice bowl of tau fu fah..
*The funny Chef Koh with Esther*
Chef Koh is one funny person that when we interviewed him he was very comedic, be it verbal or actions..I believe a happy-go-lucky chef would definitely able to cook some interesting and delicious dishes..
*House of Tang*
If you have run out of ideas for your CNY family dinner, I bet this is the place to be..
