Jason And Grace Wedding Ceremony On Mid-Autumn Festival – Tea Ceremony

October 3rd 2009 is the day that a lot of couples deemed it to be an auspicious day..They get married on 2009′s Mid-Autumn Festival based on the Lunar calendar..

I have 2 couple of friends who have registered since few months back and now they are officially married, the Chinese way..

One couple is my old best buddy, Jason Chan Yew Mun, whom I got to know during my short stint in Cochrane Road School doing Form 6, marrying his love of his life, Grace Loo..

Another couple is a blogger friend who I got to know not long after I blog actively back in 2006, Cely and Hongkiat..

As much as I wanted to attend both of their dinner, but it’s impossible..

To make up to both of these friends wedding, I’ve decided to go both sides, one in the morning and one for the dinner..

So, I went to Jason and Grace‘s wedding reception aka tea ceremony (in Chinese custom), in a slight hangover state..I know, it sucks..

*Home prayer*

Due to my drunkard state in the previous night (with a different group of friends), I didn’t manage to go to the early morning thingy where the maids of honor (bridesmaids) played a fool with the best men (groomsmen)..

I bet it was a fun activity..

So after fetching the bride to the groom’s house for a short prayer and all, they proceeded to the next destination for the tea ceremony..

On a side note, it’s not quite a good morning as it drizzled for a while..I bet a lot of couples around the KL were expecting the worst scenario..

Fortunately it didn’t happened..

Before the Chinese custom’s wedding tea ceremony, all of us were treated with some light meals because all of them were up since early morning, except for me.. :P

Due to my hangover state, I skipped the foods and drinks..

A bit of fun facts..Both of them got to know each other in their college, Sunway College..

They have been together for 4 years and 11 months before the real deal, if you set aside the registration part..We are Chinese anyway..

What else..One of the bride’s bridesmaid, Jennifer is my friend Nicholas’ girlfriend and Nicholas happened to be Jason’s ex-schoolmates back in Primary school..

More photos up ahead on the tea ceremony and also the bouquet-tossing activity, which is kinda funny..

*Serving tea and receiving angpow (red packets)*

In Chinese custom, the newly wed couple have to serve tea to the elders in the family, starting from parent(s)/guardian(s), grandparent(s), uncle(s), auntie(s), elder sibling(s), etc, to show respect to them and also to get blessings from them as well..

In return, they will give angpow (red packets) to the married couple to show them their blessings and as a sign of good luck and prosperity (etc)..

*Vice versa*

After the married couple’s part for serving tea and receiving angpows, it’s their turn to sit down to be served with tea..

It’s those who are younger than them in the family whom will serve them the tea..

It’s been like ages since I last saw Jason and suddenly it brings back lots of memories..

I still remember how we fool each other, how we scout on chicks in the school, how we sneak out and patrol around the school compound in the middle of a class, and many more..

I felt sorry that I couldn’t attend his wedding dinner..Okay I’m starting to sound a bit gay..Back to modern time..

All of them were getting ready for the bouquet-tossing..I see some ‘I want to get married’ faces..LOL~!!

*Getting ready for some bouquet tossing action*

As usual, after the tea ceremony or wedding reception or whatever it is, the bride would toss the bouquet to the assembled unmarried women..

Superstition has it that the one who catches the bouquet will be the next one to marry..I highly doubt so but for the sake of custom and for the fun of it, why not?

*The ladies waiting patiently for the bouquet*

Yeah, it’s like you are looking at the bouquet waiting it to reach your hands and while you are at it, you are already daydreaming about your marriage..

You have a boyfriend or not is not a problem anymore because superstition rules~!! It’s a license to daydream..

*The hopefuls*

So what do you think? Are they looking at the bouquet to aim for it when it falls, or they are trying to figure out where the bouquet is landing so that they could avoid it..

If you choose the latter one, welcome aboard to the flirting world..Wahahaha..

*Last but not least*

Once again, congratulations to the newly wed couple, Jason and Grace..After all the ups and downs all these years, finally both of you had tied the knot..

I wish your marriage last forever with happiness all the time..
