H1N1 Is Not Quite A Scare Anymore, Thinks MOH

If you’ve been following my Twitter and Plurk few days ago, I said that I’m down with sickness, running nose and sore throat, that’s on Sunday..

I’ve mild running nose since early last week and I didn’t even give a damn about it..

Not that I’m not afraid of A(H1N1) or whatsoever, but I believed in my body immune system, so there’s nothing to be afraid of..

But little did I know, I’ve been going to bed very late recently and that definitely hit me right in the face..

Not to mention I’ve been going to events and all, such as Juice Anniversary and Heineken Green Room..

Well anyway, when I got up on Monday morning, the sore throat is getting me a bit..Still, I didn’t give a damn about it, until after lunch..

Many friends on Twitter and Plurk asked me to go see the doctor or maybe a check up..

Monday morning, running nose and sore throat..After lunch, joint and muscle pain, slight dizziness, where I can feel my head is pumping faster than usual..

Near to dinner, I felt my body a bit heaty, a bit like feverish..So I took 2 pills of Panadol after dinner..

Midnight, nothing much happened..I even had supper of hotdog bun and a chicken pie..

Tuesday morning, heaty body and more running nose..So I decided to go see Dr. L somewhere in Cheras, a so-called family doctor ever since I was a baby..

So here’s something I want to share with you guys if you didn’t know..And congrats to those already know..

P/S - By the way, if not because of my finals is around the corner, I wouldn’t trouble myself to go to the clinic..

He asked me, “What happen?”..

I said, “I suspect myself for having H1N1″..

Dr. L continued, “Even if you suspect that but nothing i can do coz we are not running any test anymore”..

He says that, even if we go straight to Sungai Buloh, the main centre for H1N1 patients, they will not run a test for us too..

If you suspect yourself for contracted with H1N1, they will ask you STUPID questions..

They will ask, “Have you got in touch with people that is infected with H1N1?”..

Say if I were there, I will say, “I don’t know..I’ve been going out to events and uni in the past 1-week..So I’ve made contact with at least 3,000-5,000 people..How would I know if any of them is infected with H1N1?”..

The hospital authorities (Sg Buloh or maybe General Hospital) will say this to you, “Okay now you have to call each and everyone you’ve made contact with and double confirm whether they are infected with H1N1″..

How stupid this statement is..Make phone calls to the 3,000-5,000 people that I’ve made contact with..They got their doctorate with a brain in the ass or what?

Here’s one complaint letter from a The Star reader saying he was rejected to do the test if he’s infected with H1N1..

Okay, if I were to call all of my friends whom I’ve made contact with, definitely they didn’t have H1N1, or at least I think so, because they were out and all..

Say I’ve made contact with 200 of my friends..What about the remaining 2,800-4,800 people that I don’t know?

If there’s no definite confirmation that I’ve contacted people infected with H1N1, the hospitals will not admit nor run a test on self-suspect patients..

In this case, me..Unless, you are a high-risk groups such as children, pregnant women, elders, or something like that..

So Dr. L told me that he has to treat my illness as normal flu, as the symptoms for both normal flu and H1N1 is very very similar, except for vomiting and sudden change of body condition, such as appetite or something damn serious..

Well, I understand that the doctors cannot treat each and every flu patients as a suspect of H1N1 because if they do so, it will be very chaotic and all..

I even understand that for sure there will be shortage of work force in the hospitals if everyone were to suspect themselves for having H1N1..

I even mentioned earlier that I have confidence in my body immune system, where if you see the past death cases, it’s either involving young child, elders, or maybe people who is lacked of nutrient and all..

But now, they are not even running a test to check whether you are infected or not..

I would say to hell with all the newspaper headlines higlighting the current death toll in Malaysia has increased to 8 cases..

Coz being a Malaysian, it’s very normal that we get used to the Government’s order of, “It’s not serious yet..Wait til death toll up to 50 first” mentality..

Same goes to collapse of buildings, road accidents, and many other hot issues..

If you have flu, fever, sore throat, and muscle pain, just take panadols is sufficient enough, IMHO..

So, recover, or go die~!! ARGH~!!

  1. It’s fine if you don’t want to do throat swabs because they don’t do it anymore in Melbourne too because it’s way too common .. BUT they treat every single flu with Tamiflu, so even if you don’t have it, you’ll get Tamiflu anyway just to be safe. Eliminate testing, just go straight for the cure.

Don’t worry, apparently runny nose is not a symptom for H1N1! Cough, sore throat, fever and body ache!

  2. yea.. i feel u man. it’s like too much reliance on limited specialized H1N1 med-centres from MOH brings inconvenience.
i guess nth much can do about it..but pray n hope for govt to find the ultimate cure for h1n1.

  3. so called taking things seriously! bull shit human shit alot! fall sick really bad e.g. with pneumonia or something and Im sure they will attend to you!
anyhow, rest well at home because even if you got yourself H1N1, by getting enough of rest at home may cure you too.IF it gets worst, do something about it.Get your ass up to Sg. Buloh no matter what

  4. chingy >> yeah..stupid!

Wingz >> that’s why..if not because of exam i also don’t wanna go see doctor
    adeying >> of course i will ;)
    floriferous >> LOL nice one
    someonebusy >> i believe so too :)

  5. I agree. That day after Man Utd match, my body got feverish for three days in a row with minor flu n slight cough, fourth day go see my uncle (doctor), he said nothing serious.

Thing is I realised I didn’t get enough rest, didn’t drink enough water and stuff for the past few days before the match and hence got sick, making me more prone to H1N1 since i came in contact with at least 80000 ppl dat day. Lesson learned.

  6. CWKen >> yeah man..good body immune = say no to H1N1
    Linda >> huhuhu
    Kelvin >> LOL
Leon >> Amiflu? dunno..i got antibiotics though..

  7. same case here…i was down with flu 3 weeks back..went to a government clinic at PGRM, cheras. The doc ask, did i have any contact wif H1N1 patients?stupid question!i have been everywer and met so many ppl.how in the world i know who and who is infected wif H1N1???then SHE said, if dun have then i m OK!after 1 week, still not OK.then went back to the same clinic. get more medicine.and finally recover.lucky tak MATI!lol….fuck the MOH and the gomen!!!useless!!

  8. I asked the doctor, “how do we know if its normal flu or H1N1?” He replied me “I also got H1N1 now larr!” fwoah sarcastic can? wtf?

FML….all the best me very long hair friend!

  9. A throat swab isn’t gonna cure you, silly. Currently, H1N1 or not, if you’re sick, you’ll get the same treatment – panadol/benydril, the usual drugs. There is no special treatment for H1N1 at the moment. So, quit making a fuss over throat swabs or panadol prescription. Tamiflu is not a cure. Only effective if administered within 48 hours. And resistant strains are already being reported around the globe. On top of that, Msia don’t really have that many stockpiled locally. These are reserved primarily to healthcare workers.

  10. winchaser >> yes i know very little of H1N1 and i’m not making a fuss whether throat swab is curing me or not..i’m making a fuss about throat swab is that if a throat swab is taken, then i’ll be able to know whether i’m an infected one..if i’m one then maybe it’s best for me to be admitted into Sungai Buloh or GH, instead of wandering around my house and other places..get what i meant? i hope you do..

  11. Hey Yatz,
Even as a doctor, i am damn fu*king pissed at our DG for making statement reassuring the people not to panic.
Perhaps he should reconsider his statement if himself or one of his family member gets it! There is a reason why Malaysia is ranked top 3 in death rate in the world.
    1. a few birdie told me MOH had exceeded their allotted budget on health. So, throat swabs is limited to only 300 per day, family member of confirmed case of H1N1 not given prophylactic doses for Relenza or Tamilflu, and worst of all, the original Tamiflu by Roche which the government bought were already expired, but they gave the thumbs up, prescribing to patients with the explanation that it is still effective for another three years even if its expired.
    2. First those jokers from Putrajaya told me,”Jangan cuba nak manage patient. Refer mereka ke hospital kerajaan. And NOW, our minister of health threatens private practitioner with heaver penalties if we refuse to treat patient suspected of H1N1. Treat with what?
    Stock tak ada!
    3. Government doctors kept on telling patient that they are “secondary contact”, hence go to GP for treatment when they don’t even bother to examine the sick. They jump into conclusion based on history from family member accompanying patients to hospital.
    4. I know number 3. for a fact as I attended a confirmed H1N1 14 year old boy from Pahang, who was lethargic and severely dehydrated. He went to government hospital in Pahang, and the medical assistant(and not the doctor) gave him Benedryl and Panadol without examining him! I referred him to the hospital was because i thought his condition warrants admission or at least put him on IV line to treat his dehydration. But instead, they send him home with Tamiflu, and his parents literally begged for prophylactic medication as they have another 2 younger siblings at home, age 4 and 2 years old. The parents came to my clinic the second time, admitted that they can’t afford Relenza which is sold at RM188 each unit. I really pity them, but i had only 1 unit left.
    5. Reports from WHO came out in the news today, stating that H1N1 isn’t like SARS, where preexisting lung condition post a risk of death, since 60% of death occurred are healthy individuals age between 20-49 years old.
    6. More post mortem confirmed to be H1N1 instead of the test done when the patient got admitted. Fu8king hell!!!
    7. Government gave a statement that H1N1 test can be done in private clinic. Fu*king hell! Where got? The test only confirms whether you have influenza A or B.
Not all influenza A are H1N1.
    8. Malaysia will get only 400,000 units of vaccine by next year and its allotted to UKM. Fu*king hell! there are 28 million Malaysians and we got only 400,000??
    9. H1N1 is a mutated new strain of 4 types of virus, NOT 3!! Pharmaceutical company who produced vaccine for human seasonal flu claim since its made up of 3 strains, it gives 30% protection! Fu*king hell! I repeat! Its a mutated strain for recombination of DNA from 4 strain! Hence its a new strain! WHO predicts the first vaccine should be available my October. NO current vaccine available protects shit!!!
    10. Reliable source (from drug representatives) who worked with government hospitals mentioned that there are many unreported death. Statistics as of last week stated so far reported cases as 4200 since May. But some expert thinks its 20x more than that!
We are all going to hell with these moronic incompetent jokers calling the shots and making stupid policies.
Can’t help it…. have to say it.. FU*KING HELL!!!!

To fellow readers, sorry for the foul language. I am just letting of some steam. And Yatz, I am terribly sorry to lash it out in your site, dude!
