Our veteran local artiste, Zainal Abidin, one of Malaysia’s most successful singers I would say..
His music influence are more to pop-folks genre, where some likened to dikir barat or such genre, but it’s more to it..
If you think punk-pop-rock bands nowadays are very much sensitive and well-informed about global issues and all, you are wrong..
They are just rebellious and sing their heart out because they got no where to complain about their problems and inequality in the society nowadays..
I don’t think any of the punk-pop-rock bands can be compared to the likes of John Lennon, Zach De La Rocha, and some other artiste-cum-activist/environmentalist..
I would say Zainal Abidin is partially of that environmentalist group of people..
If you think Earth Hour is so cool or agenda-sensitive regarding the global warming, green house effects, or dying of the ozone layer, think again..
If you are aware of all these shits and WANT to do your part in the global warming issue, why wait til Earth Hour? You can do it anytime anywhere you want..
If you are aware of those shits and WANT to do your part in the issue, why you do it for just one hour? Why you didn’t start it from say, 6pm or 7pm? Or maybe extend it to say, 10pm or 11pm?
Well, by extending the hours on Earth Hour, can you do something and not going to bed early despite the darkness?
I would say fuck Earth Hour..And what I want to say is this song, Hijau by Zainal Abidin, is composed and sung back in 1988, or maybe longer than that, has already highlighted the issues of global warming and the dying of ozone layer..
Imagine, 1988, that’s 21 years ago, a Malay ethnic singer, already expressed himself or I would say the thoughts of the whole world, but what has been done?
So, in conjunction with Earth Day, or whatever day it is, this is one nice song to be listened again, again, and again..
This song if not mistaken is sung in Kelantanese dialect..
Those highlighted in red in brackets are direct translation of the Kelantanese dialect to modern KL Malay dialect..
Zainal Abidin – Hijau lyrics
Bumi yang tiada rimba
Seumpama hamba
Dia dicemar manusia
Yang jahil ketawa
Bumi yang tiada udara
Bagai tiada nyawa
Pasti hilang suatu hari
Tanpa disedari
Bumi tanpa lautan
Akan kehausan
Pasti lambat laun hilang
Duniaku yang malang
Dewasa ini kita saling merayakan
Kejayaan yang akhirnya membinasakan
Apalah gunanya kematangan fikiran
Bila di jiwa kita masih lagi muda
Dan mentah
Ku lihat hijau
Bumiku yang kian pudar
Siapa yang melihat
Di kala kita tersedar
Mungkinkah terlewat
Korupsi,opresi,obsesi diri
Polusi,depressi,di bumi,kini
Oh..anok-anok (Oh..anak-anak)
tokleh meghaso mandi laok (tak leh merasa mandi lauk)
Besaing,maing ghama-ghama (bersaing, main ramai-ramai)
Ale lo ni tuo umurnyo bejuto (alam, sekarang ni tua umurnya berjuta)
Kito usoho (kita usaha)
Jauhke dari malapetako (jauh daripada malapetaka)
Ozon lo ni koho nipih nak nak aghi (ozon ni semakin nipis hampir nah habis)
Keno make asak (kena makan asap)
Hok biso wei, pasa maknusio (ia berbisa, pasal manusia)
Seghemo bendo-bendo di dunio (semua benda-benda di dunia)
Tokleh tehe (tak boleh tahan)
Sapa bilo-bilo (sampai bila-bila)
After the day time where most performers were local artistes except for Russian Winters and Sixx (Indonesia), night time has arrived and it was the time for the main acts..
First off, local band Estranged kicked off the evening slot at about 7.30pm..Well I missed the opening part, was there when it’s about to end..It was quite a show..
*Sing your lungs out*
That’s Estranged‘s vocalist Rich doing his thang..
*This pic is damn nice*
When you couldn’t squeeze yourself into the crowd, you just have to stand far away and of course, equipped with some sophisticated gadget, that’s a DSLR with a 300mm F2.8 lens..
*The Nikon 300mm F2.8 cannon*
That thing is damn heavy and it needs a bit of strength to hold it..Advice, use a monopod or tripod..
Andrew got to shoot the whole event with that cannon, but at the same time have to carry it everywhere he went..
Next of after Estranged‘s performance, Nidji (Indonesia) took the stage and they were really good..
Initial I thought it must be some crappy band or something but when they played along, I’ve heard of few tracks on the radio..
Their showmanship were simply awesome! I bet it’s as good as any international act, if not better..
Right after Nidji‘s overwhelming performance, it’s local artiste’s turn, veteran band Butterfingers..
I guessed the crowd put high hope on Butterfingers but I would say that Butterfingers let us down, big time, especially after a great performance from Nidji..
*Butterfingers on stage*
I don’t know why but it seemed that Butterfingers totally let the audience down, big time!
They did some slow-mo tracks instead of some fast-paced to hype up the crowd..
To make matters worse, the crowd chanted and requested for “The Chemistry”, one of Butterfingers signature tracks, but they never intended to listen to its fans..
After about 3 tracks, the crowd started to get bored and some of them dispersed the front stage..They performed for about 30-minutes or so, that’s about 6 tracks..
The remaining crowd requested for an encore and again “The Chemistry”, they decided to stop there and then with a bow and thank you note..
That’s why I said the performance from Butterfingers was a big disappointment..
After Butterfingers, it was Agrikulture, another Indonesian band, took the stage..They played some electrofunk-synthesizer-mix and surprisingly quite a number of people liked it..
Where as for me, I felt the vocalist was a bit gay..No, not happily gay..Gay as in homo gay..The vocalist even took off his pants in the middle of their performance, left him with his jacket and boxers..
Well, I don’t know why but I felt a bit irritating..Maybe I was too excited with the Korn hype and not quite interested in other so so bands..
Okay, more on Korn and N.E.R.D in next one..This post is getting too long..
Well last week, got a call from Kelli and she suggested that we should head over to Groove Junction (GJ) for dinner and of course, I nodded, a sign of agreeing to it..
So off we went to Groove Junction at Desa Sri Hartamas, somewhere nearby Burger King, or it’s just behind the big True Fitness Gym Centre, if you know where..
It’s located on the First Floor of that building on Jalan 22A/70A..So take note of the stairs..
As you can see, Groove Junction (GJ) is a bistro and cafe fusioned makan place..
And a bit of history, Groove Junction is founded by Jennifer Thomas and Joanne Yeoh to promote Jazz music in Kuala Lumpur..
In additional to its Jazz music background, Jennifer Thomas is actually the sister of Jose Thomas, a legendary Jazz guitarist who is also the founding member Groove Unction..So know you see where the name came from *grins*..
Okay if you are too young to know who is Jose Thomas, I bet you know who is John Thomas, the winner for overall Best Drummer Award 2002 at the Yamaha AsiaBeat Band competition..
John Thomas is actually the son of Jose Thomas and of course nephew to Jennifer Thomas..Okay I’m getting too deep into the family affair now..Check it out HERE..
*Nice ambience with nice interiors*
Here’s what Groove junction offers to complement to its Jazz music, a concentrated small stage with dining tables and a bar for its patrons to hang around for some Jazzy night out..
The ambience, decorations, and seating all are well arranged for its purpose, to promote Jazz music..
As you can see, the usual gang that comprises Kelli, Hsu Jen, David, Nigel, Joshua, and I were on high when music-lovers like us, got to dine in such nice restaurant with such good combination of food and music..
*Tapas – Salsa Berenjenas (L) and Grilled Asparagus*
We started off with some tapas..
Salsa Berenjenas, a Mallorcan-styled eggplant dish, is revised with olive oil, chili herbs, and of course sliced Baguette (French thick loaf)..
Well, I have to say this Salsa Berenjenas is very nice and it’s very well complement with the French loaf..
It’s already confirmed that I really love the dish due to the fact that I don’t like brinjal to begin with! This eggplant dish didn’t give me the gooey feeling of brinjal..
Okay, it took me some courage to actually try the Berenjenas, and I love it!
Grilled Asparagus, topped with Hollandaise sauce, is crunchy enough to munch your night away..This also, due to the fact I’m not quite a vegie eater (I consume meat much more than vegie on a ratio of about 10:1), asparagus is one of the few vegies that I actually eat..
I just love it especially with the Hollandaise sauce! LOL~!! Damn, I’m on vegie high now..
*Salsa Berenjenas with Baguette (French thick loaf)*
Just put on the cuts of eggplant on the slice of Baguette and chew your thing away..
*Crispy Oyster Mushrooms (L) and Lemon Fish Fritos*
Still on tapas, we have Crispy Oyster Mushrooms and Lemon Fish Fritos..
The Crispy Oyster Mushrooms, deep fried to perfection that it actually tasted like, guess what, chicken! Isn’t awesome? I mean, really!
According to Jennifer and Joanne, this dish actually very well accepted by its patrons who’s craving for light snacks..It goes along very well with its very nice chilli sauce..
We all just love the chilli sauce and dip almost everything and anything into it!
Lemon Fish Fritos, deep fried fresh fish nuggets with tartar sauce..Well again, another fact of mine, that I don’t really like to eat fish fillet due to some bad experience, I actually like the fish nuggets..LOL~!! It’s amazing..
Now continue on for more tapas, drinks, pasta, main dishes of lamb shank and pan-fried seabass, and desserts..
Okay this is one quite a delayed post coz was waiting for the photos, then busy mode, edit photos, and err, lots of other things..
And before that, I’ve a good news and a bad news..The good news is I just finished my exam on Thursday and I feel great..Even went to clubbing right after that..
The bad news is I only have 1 week holiday before the new semester starts..When students from other uni or colleges finished their exams in early May, I’ve already into the second week of the new sem..Sucks..
Anyway, Sunburst Music Festival, a whole day long awesome event, was brought to you by Pineapple Event on 28th March 2009..
It’s in its second consecutive years, the first was in 2008 (of course), where the main internationals acts were John Legend and Incubus..
This year, we had lots of rumours going on and on with not even a single confirmed artiste, until roughly 2-weeks before the event..
It’s the least you would expect them to come and it was KORN~!!!! In the picture was also N.E.R.D, a hiphop group of Pharrell’s..
Well, I didn’t even plan to go to the event because the ticket cost RM140 for pre-sale and RM200 for door-sale..
On the event day itself (Saturday), Junn called me in the early morning (about 9am) and asked me whether I want to go to Sunburst or not..
Still in dreamland, I asked him was it tomorrow coz I thought that day was Friday..Then only I know it’s Saturday after few funny arguments..
Then Junn told me that Lohman couldn’t make it to Sunburst due to emergency..Since he already got the ticket, might as well give it away, else will be thrown into the bin..
Junn knowing I’m quite a fan of Korn, thus the morning call..Well instead of throwing it away, I’d gladly receive it~!!
Ok, friendship aside, I planned to pay back Lohman to compensate for his lost..It isn’t really good to get it for free, even though it might be in the bin if I wasn’t going..
So Junn, Jen, and I went to Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club and reached the place slightly before 4pm..
Okay roughly this is the overview of the field of Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club where the 2 stages with the yellow and blue roof are the main stages, with another 2 smaller ones in another area..
The yellow stage is called Sun Stage and the blue one called Sky Stage..
*Other places and landscapes*
The red igloo with a chimney is the place where Speedzone promoting their event 1-week before the F1 race..
There is also Xpax thingy but we weren’t allowed any entry because none of us were Celcom user..
Then the stage, is where Silent Disco was being held..Silent Disco concept has been done in few occasions including Nuffnang’s Silent Halloween..
Read on for more of Silent Disco and other stupid stuffs about the people there..IQ level-10 wtf..
Here’s a video that was shared by Ren on plurk the other day, Isao Machii, a modern samurai..
Yes, how often do you heard of samurai or ninja other than anime or japanese movie or drama? The answer is none, most likely..
But this fella, Isao Machii, holds 2 Guinness World Records in the somewhat samurai category..
The first one was in 2007, 1000 rolls of straws are cut in 36-minutes and the second one was in 2008, to have 7 cuts on a roll of not fixed straws (mat), without dropping it from its standing position..
By wielding his zanpakutou samurai sword, he’s almost invincible, by cutting anything and almost everything in every way..
The most incredible thing are his eye sight, accuracy, speed, and strength..It’s all simply amazing shits..
I would say most people does the following things, as in read blogs, read news, plurk, twit, Facebook, and chatting on IM..
But how many people could really do the same thing every single day, without getting bored?
I do believed there’s a moment where you’d feel lost, tired, and bored when you are online..
There’s nothing much to do coz you are doing it everyday..There’s nothing much to chat coz you are chatting everyday..
Recently, I found a way to cure your boredom, that’s to webcam, or some people prefer mic-chat via Skype..
Well, got nothing much to talk about, I prefer webcam..Webcam-ing gives you variety of things to talk about..Okay, it still differs to certain people..
Like how I did with Jamie..She just knows the way to get things fired up wtf..Okay I’m still using the older version of Windows Live Messenger, hence the noob interface..
First off, she showed me the whole bucket of Chupa Chups that she has in her room, right beside the PC monitor..
*Jamie and her Chupa Chups*
Okay now that’s whole lots of Chupa Chups for you to practice on your sucking and licking, literally..
I don’t know but she’s a bit too obsessed with the Chupa Chups..I’m not sure whether those are real Chupa Chups or not coz if you look at it, the candies are arranged too nicely..
I bet she doesn’t really eat them..For deco perhaps..Then I asked her to change something else as I got a bit bored looking at Chupa Chups..
She said she got lots of plushies..
*Pork-que-pineSonic the Hedgehog*
So she showed me a porcupine hedgehog, without eyes..
Then I remember she has a Domo-kun, so I asked her to show me on webcam..But, she showed me this instead..
*Jamie with her plushie Tako wtf*
Yes, that’s one of her many many plushies, Tako the Octopussy wtf..Her Domo-kun was in another room and she’s lazy..
Then, as most friends already know, I’m a big eater, real big..And I usually get hungry around midnight, somewhere 12midnight – 3am..
So at that time, I said I was hungry coz Mr. Tako made me think of takoyaki..I’ve forgotten what time was it..Most likely between 1am – 2am..
Telling her that I’ve had enough of instant noodles a.k.a maggi mee, she showed me this..
*A can of Pringles*
That didn’t help at all wtf..Well, before my mom passed away, she used to buy lots of junk food just in case I get hungry at night or just to munch the day away..
