Nuffnang Nokia Silent Halloween Party @ Borneo Baruk Club
Monday, November 3rd, 2008
On 1st of November, Nuffnang had a delayed Halloween party due to venue problem and all..But it doesn’t matter at all..The party spirit and excitement that counts..
And of course, the party was sponsored by Nokia, the medium that connects people wtf..
Well anyway, the kick of Halloween party wouldn’t be completed without costumes and all..
And most close friends would have guessed it already..With my genuine long hair, I went to the party as Sadako of The Ring fame..No not Ju-on..
Ju-on’s character is a bit modern compared to The Ring..The Ring was the pioneer of the long hair white robe ghouls thingy..Thanks to Karena for her eyeliner and Hsu Jen for helping me to draw or whatever you call it..

*Trial and the real thang*

*I use starch on my face*

*And also starch on my forehead and arms*
Using starch creates an effect like my skin is really peeling off and to my surprise it is..I didn’t expected it to be like that in the first place..I was amazed by it, too..
I make up in the club so that I won’t scared any pedestrians when I was driving there..
And with a little help from Hsu Jen on my eyes with the eyeliners, this is the result that I got for my portrayal of Sadako..

*Terrifying? You judge it*
Not to mention that I was the only one who fully utilized the advantage of having long hair..
But anyway, let’s get to the party and rock on..We have all people dressed up in costumes and all..That’s the spirit..Pun intended..

*We have Undead Keira Knightley and some chinese guy camwhoring*

*We also have cannibals*
It was a bit off to see so many ghosts and weird-looking figures walking around in Jalan Kia Peng on 1st of November but hell who cares..We are all bloggers anyway..
Everyone dressed up like they just rose from hell and some just came down from heaven wtf..

*Captain Hook with don’t-know-who and Hsu Jen with Milk-contained-with-melamine*
In collaboration with Nokia Independent Artiste Club (IAC), few acts performed and it was hell great! Pun intended..
Well, to kick start the night we have Alaling and The Kaya Koks performed on stage..I definitely love Alaling and The Kaya Koks especially First Time..

*Alaling and The Kaya Koks*
They even brought a rapper duo and also a ska band, which I don’t know their names..Sorry..But they put up great performances too!
I enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed them at Zouk back in May 2008..Check them out HERE, HERE, and HERE..
As usual, we had good games that we could play with each other blogger so that everyone wouldn’t be left out..
I even won 2 movie tickets from the toilet-paper-wrapping game with 4 other people..

*Shon Chong, Me, Ame, Jolyn, EeFei*
I have not much to say bout the event coz it was so good that every other blogger had gave their say in their blogs..
It was greatly organized and I would say Nokia has been very generous in giving 9 Nokia XpressMusic phone, namely5220 and 5320..
The categories were 2 Most Creative Posts, 2 Best Silent Dancer, and a Best N-Gage Player Prize..
The other 4 phones went to Best Dressed, namely Grand Prize The You-Made-Us-Pee-Our-Pants Award for both male and female..
Also, the Runners-up, namely The I-Want-My-Mommy Award also for male and female..That makes 4 phones..
The one thing I’m not satisfied is the judgement for all of the categories..
For most creative posts, JunJun-Riko won the most creative post while Nigel got 2nd-placing..
JunJun-Riko was absent and she still gets the prize..Yes indeed the post was already there but, she was absent..Perhaps should give to another person?
2 Best Silent Dancer, a kid got the Grand Prize and Kelz got the Runner-up..I can see Kelz danced ecstaticly and so was few other bloggers..
I did saw the boy danced as well but I don’t remember seeing him danced to the extend that he deserved the Grand Prize..Okay perhaps I didn’t really pay attention to him..
For Best N-Gage Player I couldn’t comment much coz I didn’t see him or any other people play so, yeah..Winner based on higher scores or something anyway..I guess he deserved it..
The one I most not satisfied was the Best Dressed..As stated in the category..

*Prizes description*
Well, sad to say that NOT all of the winners were scary at all..Especially Paris Hilton..She He wasn’t scary at all and for god’s sake he was the winner in FEMALE category..

*Paris Hilton, Slutty Nurse Joker, Desperate Housewife or something*
It’s so unfair to other female bloggers who went all out to be as scary as hell just to stand a chance for the phone as well..
Not to mention the Desperate Housewife or whatever she is, wasn’t scary at all..

*Celineyap as one-eyed mummy*
This mummy here I would say she deserves at least to be short-listed but she wasn’t..
Or maybe this girl..

*Sharlyn was as scary as hell*
But still, she wasn’t short-listed as well..What the judges went blind for a moment or something?
As for male category, sorry but I really have to say this and call me a sore loser or whatever you want, I actually think that the Satan or Captain Hook wasn’t scary at all..

*Jeffro the Satan*
And too bad for Joe whom didn’t managed to grab a phone because he had won a N95 few months back..His make-up was the bomb..

*Joe the Undead Kurt Cobain*
Well, I know it’s the effort that pays off..Effort wise, everyone should be credited for their efforts, make ups, money splurged for the costumes rental and all..
Yes, I would credit each and everyone of them for their effort..Paris Hilton totally rocked the balls out of me but NO! He’s not scary at all..
Everyone was pretty sure about the categories of You-Made-Us-Pee-In-Pants and I-Want-My-Mommy awards..That’s why they went all out with the make-ups and all..
If you ask me, I would say I deserved at least to be short-listed if not winning anything..
Even IF I wasn’t short-listed and IF the winners were all scary ghosts, I would lose it with head high up but hell no..NOT all of them were scary..
That’s the thing that made me so frustrated..Now if you ask me who others were in scary costumes I’ll tell you I don’t know coz it’s NOT my job to find the scariest costume..
But of course, I know I can’t blame Nuffnang for the results because they were not the one who gave out the prizes nor being the judge..It was Nokia, the sponsor who gave it out..So, sigh~~ (a big one)..
Okay, I think I had enough of rantings and hope future events would be better and really, I had enough of bad judgements..

*Paris Hilton, Captain Hook, and emcee Liang the Undead Elvis Presley (fat version)*

*Runners-up of the night, Kelz and Nigel*
I guess that wraps up the whole event and I really had fun..Scaring people and all..
Just that I think the contests were being badly judged and they should do more than that to be a judge..
After the event some of us roamed the street and even Pavillion with our full costume on and it was hell fun..No doubt about it..

*Me with real hair covering my face and the face underneath the long hair*
Will be updating again with more pics and more costumes..Stay tune people..

sigh… won’t comment on anything else…
but about the starch, that’s actually the technique that is a variant of the liquid latex i used.
but i used it with toilet paper to create the effect of peeling skin or tears and such which you can also use with starch.
what could have been done with the starch alone was basic foundation, and also a little shading of wounds. most people just thrown on blood, which leaves you looking like you leaked tomato sauce. huahuahua.. the right way is create depth of the wound, then touch it up with blood. also studying the injury itself and how you intend it, and making the bruising not just purple, but several shade, including speckles of green and yellow. isn’t as difficult as it sounds.
the plus side of starch, easier to handle, and definitely cheaper.
liquid latex is pricier and faster to dry, so it’s a case of time spent only. effect is basically the same. plus it doesn’t get affected by sweat thus lasting longer, though yours looked tight with no problems.
i would have also suggested smudging of the eye area creating a hollowed out eyes and cheeks area, which is generally because of the drainage of blood in the specific areas in corpses - making it the general look for hantus eerywhere. huahuahua…
loved your effort dude… and let me know next time you want to recreate something like this. would love to help out. cheers!
